The winter air in NYC can wreak havoc on your skin and nails — indoor heat can be particularly brutal on your digits. To avoid cracked nails, invest in a good clipper and keep your nails short and trimmed. The BEST nail clippers are hands-down made in Solingen Germany —also known as the city of blades. These clippers are well made with precision-sharp and long-lasting blades. I found an excellent selection of nail clippers at Zamberg.com. These clippers are made of high quality non-corrosive stainless steal (INOX) and will last a long time (if you don't lose them). But whatever clipper you decide to get, remember to clip your nails at home — office and subway clipping is perceived by most people as gross.

At DETAILS, Designer/Agent provocateur Tom Ford lets it all out hang out with his 10 Rules of Style, covering everything form earwax to mens bracelets. I'm not sure how many vodka tonics were involved when he came up with number 10. Check it out.
Over at GQ, Designer/Man of the Year Thom Browne talks about his typical day including breakfast at Cafe Cluny, his Samsonite briefcase and walking tall in a tiny suit. Tom hates short suits while Thom lives for them.
Either way, I think both are pretty fab.

The other day I stopped by Odin on Lafayette Street in NYC. I love going to this shop. They have a fantastic collection of clothes, shoes and accessories—most pieces are black, gray or navy— and I would pretty much wear anything that I've seen in there. What I keep forgetting is that Odin has an incredibly complete collection of Comme des Garcons fragrances. Amazing. The one that kept us sniffing our wrists all day was 888 Eau de Parfum. The concept behind this fragrance is to translate the smell of gold into perfume. Yes, GOLD! The result: a wonderful scent that is bright, warm, cold, elusive and long lasting all at once. Spectacular!
888 has notes of pepperwood, saffron, curcuma (a type of ginger), coriander, geraniaum and amber.
On my next visit to Odin, I will be adding 888 to my fragdrobe. I'll also pick up those Yohji Yamamoto sneakers that seemed to be calling my name.

Head over to my friend Amber's blog Beauty Blogging Junkie where she recaps a fun night we had recently. Hilar! She's got the best up-to-the-minute beauty products for the girls and some for the boys too. Obv. And don't forget to check out her BBJ Glossary ... she can hold an entire convo in abbreviations, I mean abbrev. Phenom!

Jack Black has some of my favorite products for shaving and moisturizing. THE ONE that's been the top of my list lately is their Intense Therapy Lip Balm SPF 25 Lemon and Chamomile. LUVit. Shea butter and avocado oil soften and condition. Lemon and Chamomile flavor is out of this world. Very smoochable. $7 bucks at Sephora or Jack Black.
Also, check out this great stocking stuffer. "It's the Balm" lip balm trio with 3 delish flavors: Lemon & Chamomile, Mint & Shea Butter and Acai Berry & Vanilla. At Jack Black $19.50

Last Saturday Alex and I took the girls (Lola and Penny) to a benefit for BARC animal shelter where we had their holiday portrait taken by Sit Pretty Photos. OK, what does this have to do with mens grooming? I had no idea Santa was a nail polish diva! I mean check out Santa's lacquer. He is rocking some serious NARS Jungle Red nail polish that would make even Diana Vreeland proud. You go girl! Haha.

The other night, my fabulicious friend Sheri and I went to dinner at Wallse – one of my FAV restaurants in NYCs Greenwich Village. And of course, before I left the apt I shot a couple spritzes of Molecule 01 on my neck. The weather wasn't exactly hot and it wasn't exactly cold so I rocked a light-weight Malo cashmere sweater and a jacket – pretty good choice I thought. So I walked over to Wallse and... well, I guess the combination of the aerobic energy from walking plus the layer of cashmere must've built up some heat up around my neck. So, I got there early, sat at the bar, worked on a glass of Riesling and had no idea that the effects of my Molecule 01 were going to town, full-force on my pulse points.
The friendly girl working behind the bar and this very cute waitress (I think she was from South Africa) were at the end of the bar – they were totally staring at me. The bartender-girl came over and said "Do you mind if I ask you something?" I was like "um, OK, what?" THEN she said "Are you wearing Molecule? " We thought so." I was like "OMG is it too strong???" She said "No, I LOVE it. It's subtle. Not strong at all!" Then she went on about this shop in her neighborhood that sells it and how she sniffs it whenever she goes in there. It was a full-on conversation about Molecule 01. Then THE WAITRESS came over and told me how much SHE loved it. It's wild! I'm having more and more of these experiences when I wear it. I'll report them when they happen. This stuff has what seems to be a cult following. Stay tuned!

When it comes to looking good, all those high tech moisturizers, eye creams and after-shave balms are essential, but they can't replace the glowing effects of a good, sweaty work-out. Exercise should be a part of every grooming regimen because great skin and slouching posture are, well... nah. The best way to get that healthy glow is the good old fashion way – good diet, plenty of rest, lots of water, sweat it out and moisturize.
There are like a zillion websites and magazines to guide you toward flatter abs and bigger muscles but I found the best way to get a jump-start on the right work-out for you is to hire a personal trainer, at least for a few sessions. This is a great way to knock off some of the 'holiday pounds' or to just tone up. My ultimate FAV gym of choice – the one with lots of colorful characters – is David Barton Gym. Because where else can you go to lift weights, look to the left and see Anderson Cooper doing crunches, then look to the right and see Amanda Lepore strutting her stuff on the treadmill? Exercise and entertainment. What motivation! Phenom!

Think what you must about Britney Spears – and EVERYONE has an opinion of her... but the girl is back in full force with her new record CIRCUS – hot, hot, H-O-T.
I wasn't much of a fan in the early days and actually started digging her in the height of her extreme tabloid spell when Blackout was released. LUVd Toy Soldier and Heaven on Earth and the remixes were pretty phenom. So lets hope that the days of the shaved head, pink wig, coochi flash and reckless ways are over cause Circus is loaded with good music.
I was lucky to get an advanced copy of the cd and it's been playing heavy rotation on my iPod. Of course Womanizer rocks but some of the bonus tracks are my favorites like Amnesia and Phonography.
CIRCUS is at the top of my "Getting Ready" playlist. Thats what I listen to when –you guessed it– getting ready for work or going out. This is good shaving music! So I've been rocking out with my latest FAV's Britney and my Billy Jealousy "Hydroplane" Shave Cream.

Hey hey hey... I stumbled upon something recently that was, well, a shocker. I went into Bed Bath & Beyond and discovered that this place is ROCKIN an incredible 'drug store grooming' section for men. Stocked with tons of basics. Lots of shampoo, shaving stuff, skin care and everything else you can imagine for skin, hair and nails. Well stocked, up-to-date, clean and organized. What more do you need? BB&B has EVERYTHING! Better than the Duane Reades , Wallgreens, CVS's or Rite Aids in my hood.

This week GQ hosted a shindig to honor it's Men of the Year.... the athletes actors and newsmakers who blew our minds in '08. Barry O, Michael Phelps, John Hamm and Leonardo DiCaprio grace this months covers.
The red carpet was certified phenom with the mega watt voltage of Jason Statham, Zac Efron, Jon Hamm, Leonardo DiCaprio, Aaron Ekhart, Sarah Silverman, Jimmy Kimmel, Rosario Dawson, Nikki Reed from Twilight and my fav smart-ass ginger-haired funny girl and no stranger to plastic surgery Kathy Griffin.

My scalp is pretty much as smooth as a peach, but being the product junkie that I am, and as long as I have even a slight trace of a hair follicle on my head, I will be buying shampoo. The one that's been rocking my world lately and doing double-duty is Neutrogena Invigorating Hair & Body Wash. Who knew you could use one product head-to-toe? Who knew?
This fresh, rich lather cleans your hair thoroughly without over-drying. As a body wash, the invigorating scent refreshes and leaves your skin feeling healthy and clean. This one smells great!
Bonus points: NIH&BW boasts a recession-friendly price of $5 and change...Yay! Plus, the new packaging of Neutrogena men's line is very masculine and appealing and looks good in the bathroom.

Here's the sitch.... temperatures dropping outside, heats rising inside and it's sucking every last drop of moisture out of your skin. It literally sucks. Anyhoo, desperate times call for desperate measures and while I have a few favs at the mens counter I usually head over to the ladies shelves and reach for the heavy hitters. A heavy-duty all time fav of mine is Shiseido Bio-Performance Advanced Super Revitalizer Cream. This really locks in moisture without being too greasy. The scent is clean and fairly neutral so there is no heavy perfumey smell. A MUST HAVE for your... you know, um..."mature" skin. I'll post more of my fav moisturizers and cleansers soon!

A few BIG names are rocking new releases this season but there are a couple that caught the attention of my nose...
1. Prada Infusion D'Homme
Like you just stepped out of the shower. Light and clean... smells a bit like expensive soap. Not as heavy as Prada Amber Pour Homme and totally wearable for daytime or the office. Inspired by Prada Infusion d'Iris for women. A combination of iris, neroli, cedarwood and incense.
2. Dolce&Gabbana The One for Men
This one's been out for a little while but I thought it would be worth mentioning. I like the opening of this scent but the dry down is what won me over... very warm and toasty. Has some notes of grapefruit, coriander, cardamon, ginger, orange blossom, with a very masculine trace of cedar, abergris and tobacco. Yum, but I'm still scratching my head wondering why Matthew McConaughey is modeling for this fragrance.

So anyone who knows me knows that I'm a HUGE Madonna fan. Apparently, so is Marc Jacobs! I went to TWO Sticky and Sweet shows at the Garden in NYC. The first night we went with my FAB sister Eileen and my adorable niece Brenna. The second night we were rocking floor seats right next to the catwalk. Of course Madonna was phenom! And I gotta tell ya, the beauty quota high! I mean the people up front were gorgeous! I got to meet Chelsea Clinton and Marc Jacobs and his boyfriend. And Madonna... well in her downtime she is very Glammed up...I guess she's preparing to be the face of new Louis Vuitton campaign. Thank you Marc.
Stagger on over to (MALIN+GOETZ) and check out their intoxicating cocktail-inspired candles. I am LUVing these babies. The Mojito and Dark Rum are beyond sexy. Burn them alone or together for the full Mojito effect. Dark Rum has top notes of bergamot and plum; middle notes of rum and leather; base notes of amber, patchouli and milk. Mojito has topnotes of lime, rum, mint leaves and basil; middle notes of spearmint, chinese mint; basenotes of white musk....YUM!
You can also kick back, watch an episode of WEEDS and light up one of their Cannabis scented candles too. I'm getting the munchies.
This stuff is the real deal! As the stock markets are tanking, it might be tough to fork over $135 for a bottle of Molecule01 (and it doesn't even come with a cap!.. but the ROI on this scent is phenom.
How the obsession started: There's a small fragrance mecca in NYC on Christopher Street called Aedes de Venustas where I go to get candles, fragrance, soaps and stuff. They're super knowledgeable about hard-to-find scents and they're generous with samples. If you're in NYC, this is a must, and I'll post more about this gem in future posts. But back to where the obsession started...
I happened to pass the owner of of Aedes on the street. After he walked by, I got a whiff of something that subtley knocked me off my feet – in a good way. I hauled ass over to the store and said to the sales girl "um, do you know what the owner is wearing?" His head peaked out from behind this curtain and, in a deep voice, he said "Molecule" then his head went back behind the curtain. It was kinda surreal with lots of attitude... LUVed it! I sampled it for about a week and then went back and bought a bottle for my birthday. I've been rocking this scent since September. My new signature scent. I'll post more of my Molecule01 experiences in the future.

Well, let me see.... ok, the picture in the masthead is a shelf in my closet. Just one shelf. This is the edited version of my stuff, for realz. Lots of stuff... like cologne's, shave cream, after shave, moisturizer, masks, eye cream and then some. You name it, if it comes in a bottle or tube, if it smells good, if makes my skin feel good, if I like the packaging.... I buy it. So I'm about to go blah blah blogging on all the glam stuff that I like. Besides, blogs are like dresses... everyone should have one, even lesbians.
