MuLondon — An Excellent Moisturizer

As a guy with buzzed hair and lots of skin exposed on my face, neck and head, I’m always on the lookout for good facial products that target different skin situations — cleansers, moisturizers, shave creams and scrubs. I have a new discovery that I MUST share with you.

I just found this gorgeous line of organic moisturizers from a UK company called MuLondon. Natural, organic and hand made, using only pure ingredients. These moisturizers are vegan, paraben-free, preservative-free, and mild and since they contain no water, they are super concentrated. There’s a lot of moisture packed in this jar. Now I’m not a vegetarian, but for those who are, this is vegan skin care at it’s best. A little bit of this cream goes a long way and I love using this as a night cream, especially on my neck (the whole neck, front and back). It's wonderful! MuLondon moisturizers have many other uses too. They are also fantastic as day-creams, applied in a thinner, lighter layer, right after a bath or a shower, to lock in the moisture. Also try them as hand creams — you'll get silky-smooth skin on your hands, and for those with follicles, as a leave-in moisturizer /conditioner for your hair (again, a very light/thin layer). This is high-quality, versatile stuff!

MuLondon has a very friendly, easy-to-use website and they ship worldwide. Check it.

Things I've Learned Over a Pair of Shoes

I made a trip this week to Leffot (the very stylish and sort of new-ish shoe store on Christopher Street) and came home with a new pair of Alden Shell Cordovan lace-ups. Very classic in a school uniform kind of way. Steven, the knowledgeable and very witty owner, explained to me that cordovan has a waxy finish and ages nicely ... and unlike most shoe leather, cordovan comes from a horse’s hide rather than from a cow. To be more specific, a horses rump. He then told me that in every horses ass there are two pairs of shoes. Hilarious!

Steven has hand-picked some of the worlds best shoes from makers like Edward Green, Church’s English, Pierre Corthay, J.M. Weston and Artioli. Leffot also specializes in MTO shoes for the more daring.

While I was there, a pair of Graftons by Church’s English Shoes were calling my name…loudly. I think I should get them. I’ll be rocking the Graftons with a pair of dark inky-blue Diesel’s.

Feast your eyes and check out Leffots blog here.

urth Skin Solutions For Men

When I first heard of urth Skin Solutions for Men, I was impressed and intrigued by the name and also by the Eastern sounding ingredients like green tea, white tea, red seaweed, lemongrass, rice and ginseng — I HAD to try it. urth did not disappoint. From the sumptuous formulations and minimalist, no-nonsense package design right down to the HOT models on their website, urth products made it to my hot list! I put this product line in the "high performance" category of skincare products. Along with the good results that I've with the urth line, there's something else that I really enjoy and that’s the fragrance. The aromas are very soothing, pleasant and clean without being soapy or too herbal. Nice!

Here’s my take:
Face wash: very gentle with plenty of foam; rinses off easily and leaves my face clean and toned but not tight
Scrub: nice buffing granules, not too rough; instant improvement on skin texture; super-nice scent
Face balm: richer than most of my day moisturizers; absorbs nicely into skin; you only need a little dab
Shave formula: very creamy and slick; I got an excellent shave using a DE razor; great scent–I think it’s the ginseng.
Hydra Therapy: I use it as a night cream and definitely feel and see the improvement in the morning. I like this one a lot.

Urth products have been written up in GQ
Forbes, Instinct and urth Face Wash is the winner of Men’s Heath Magazine Grooming Award.

Check out urth owner Bob Mah’s Skincare Training-4-men. I couldn’t have said it better myself.

Put urth on your list.

Tom Ford White Patchouli

Tom Ford's colognes for men, like his clothes, are elegant and masculine. On the other hand, Tom Ford's perfumes for women can be quite strong. It made me wonder about using one of TF's woman's perfumes as a masculine floral. So I experimented with Tom Ford White Patchouli

TFWP struck me as having a couple of similar notes as Jean Paul Gaultier Fleur du Male; mainly the orangey florals. I like it, but just a heads-up: White Patchouli is not for the weak. It has a presence. All it takes is a light spray on your chest, then let it diffuse through the fabric of your shirt… it's heavenly.

Two New Colognes from Baxter of California

Baxter of California is expanding their very successful line of grooming products into personal fragrance with two new colognes… BRAVADO 2 and BRAVADO 3. Both fragrances will debut in April exclusively at Barneys New York locations around the country.

What about Bravado 1, you might ask? The Company’s founder Baxter Finley first launched the original Bravado, a floral woodsy cologne in the early 1970’s, but the fragrance has since been retired. As part of Baxter’s expansion, Jean-Pierre Mastey, Baxter’s current president, decided to re-introduce cologne into the line. Mastey appropriately named the new fragrances as an homage to the original cologne.

Fragrance notes

Choose Your Blade

If you’re still undecided on which blade to use in your Double Edge Safety Razor, then consider trying this DE Blade Sampler Pack form West Coast Shaving. A total of 60 blades for $21.50. That’s something like 35 cents per blade! Beyond redic! The pack includes high quality blades from Germany, U.S., Israel and my favorite… the Ninja-sharp Feather blades from Japan.

Chew On This

Along with a good grooming regimen and a rockin’ wardrobe, every well-kept guy needs a couple of other basics… exercise and good nutrition. Learning to eat healthy and eat six meals a day is difficult. That's why nutrition bars have become a necessity, because they’re quick and easy.

YouBar has created a totally fun way to get the nutrition down while ending those in-between meal cravings. This is really cool! Fresh, Handmade, Personalized Nutrition Bars. You choose the ingredients and You name the bar. Mostly organic and all natural ingredients. You can make a delicious bar that has perfectly balanced nutrition and a texture to die for… with your name on it! Can you imagine?…Alex’s Almond Agave Bar or Tyler’s Honey Cashew Bar. LOVE it.

I tried the Almond Maca, (which was deliciously nutty) the Honey Cashew (sweet and crunchy) and the Breakfast Bar (awesome, filling and very yummy). They also offer customized protein shakes.

You Bars have a celebrity following too. Neil Patrick Harris made his own bar, which he called ‘AllKindsOfStuff’ (all one word). He went with the almond butter. Good choice!

My Scrubs…

If you haven’t heard of Liz Earle Naturally Active Skincare For Men, you are not alone. In Europe this line is well known.... in the US, not so much. Liz Earle, the woman, is a UK beauty expert who specializes in botanical ingredients and natural health. Her Naturally Active Skincare products are well made and packed with natural ingredients. The product that’s been rocking my world is her Face Scrub.

The scrub’s magic ingredients are pumice and Jojoba beads. Jojoba is a desert shrub which produces seeds that resemble large coffee beans. The seeds contain a wax that can be shaped into tiny spherical beads. These beads provide a gentle exfoliating action and leaves a clearer, brighter, more polished complexion. The scrub experience is very spa-like and the aroma is clean, thanks to a hint of eucaluptus. Also in the mix: beeswax and cocoa butter to help hydrate, protect and soothe the skin.

After shaving or cleansing, wet your face thoroughly and apply to your face. Gently massage in with your fingertips using light, circular movements. Concentrate on the forehead, nose, chin, jaw line and neck but avoid your eye area. Fingertip pressure and the gentle massage of the pumice and jojoba will help wipe away dead skin cells, unblock pores and stimulate blood flow.

Rinse and towel dry.

I think you're going to like this one.

Happy Birthday from Uncle Karl

As a little birthday present to Barbie, who turns 50 this year, Uncle Karl Lagerfeld has styled the girls for their big day with hot model Baptiste Giabiconi posing as Ken. Karl never ceases to amaze. As an 8-year old, having dreams of becoming a hair stylist, I gave my sister's Barbies (ALL of them and her Honey West doll too) a weekly haircut. First the "layered" look, then "feathered" a la Farrah and finally they all went "butch" when I gave them crew cuts. I guess I didn't realize that the hair wasn't going to grow back. Anyhoo, see more of more of the Kaiser's pictures at Nylon and  OohLaLa.

New in my Scentrobe: Dishevelled Elegance

Burberry’s The Beat For Men is a young and elegant fragrance with lot’s of attitude and style. I like this one for Spring and the warmer months. The Beat rocks a much younger vibe than the classic Burberry For Men which I've been a fan of for a long time.
The Beat opens with a slightly creamy-peppery note and then instantly smoothes out into a woody mix of vetiver bourbon, leatherwood and violet leaves. Very nice. It’s well made with good sillage (the trail of scent you leave wafting behind you) and doesn’t lose it’s edge.

Christopher Bailey, creative director for Burberry, set out to create a fragrance that “expressed disheveled elegance – an unforced look, style and attitude that is young, modern masculine and dynamic.” He hit the mark.

And as a bonus….I LOVE the bottle! It was designed by one of my favorite bad boy designers, Fabien Baron who also designed Madonna’s S*X book.

Save your Soles

Ped Egg for Men is a MUST for any guy who likes to take care of his feet. This is the XL manly version of the original wildly popular white Ped Egg for women. OK, I'll admit it. I was a little early to the party and ahead of the curve on this one. I started using the white one way before the stylish men's version came out. Hush.

This is basically a foot file, but there are some features about it that make Ped Egg the best exfoliation my feet have ever experienced. Ped Egg has precision micro-files that remove rough spots, dead skin and calluses from your feet easily. This gives your dogs the Ped Egg exfoliation that leaves 'em feeling soft, fresh and smooth.

Follow up with some L'Occitane Shea Butter Foot Cream and you're your feet will be rockin' and not crackin'.

This makes it on my Top 10 list! I love my Ped Egg!

Tom Brady is the "All American Stetson" guy

Last night GlamMAN went to a launch party for Stetson's new cologne All American Stetson and Tom Brady (yes, THE Tom Brady) was there to chat with us via video conference! Tom was fun, down-to-earth and a great spokesman for the cologne. He is All American. Fellow grooming and beauty bloggers and I got to ask Tom questions about everything from his grooming regimen to what he finds sexy in a woman….. and here's what we found out:

• The thing he finds most sexy in a woman - Confidence. "The sexiest people are always those who are the most confident.”
• He prefers when a woman buys a cologne for a man. Giselle...hint hint.
• When asked where is the sexiest spot on a woman’s body to apply fragrance, he answered “any place where my nose is next to…like the ear.”
• He likes to keep his nails clean like his mother taught him… and he uses a hand lotion.
• His father was a Classic Stetson man. He wore Classic Stetson for his entire life. Tom said "He was my role model. I follow and live up to those expectations."

When it was GlamMAN's turn to ask a question, I said "Hi Tom, we all know what cologne you wear but what other products do you use in your grooming regimen?
Tom's answer: “I’m always shampooing, which I hear is not great for you. I always use body lotion, especially on my hands. As an athlete I’m always protective of my hands. Obviously, I brush my teeth. But my orthodontist wants me to make some improvements on them.”
And here's my favorite part… he asked if I could give him some tips on a shampoo! (take a look at my picture.) He was fun and charming.

All American Stetson is a younger, fresher take on the classic Stetson fragrance that’s been the number one selling cologne in the men’s mass market. Pretty impressive!

Here’s the scent:
The opening has notes of Cedar Leaf, Guava and Ginger Root.
At it’s heart is Black Suede (Tom noted this as his favorite) blended with Sage, Nutmeg and Fern Water.
The basenotes contain Amber Wood, Vetiver, and a very sexy mix of Patchouli and Musk.

There’s also an All American Stetson online game at where you can challenge Tom in sports like kayaking and snowmobiling. Fun! Winners will receive autographed memorabilia, round trip tickets to a destination, and bottles of All American.

All American Stetson is priced at a recession-friendly $14.50 - $26.00

john varvatos ARTISAN

This month, John Varvatos will launch his third fragrance for men, John Varvatos Artisan. Following his immensely successful Classic and Vintage fragrances, I am going to bet that Artisan will be an equally successful scent. JV has a way of taking something that has been done before and seriously reworking it into something fresh and original. I LOVE it. In his earlier fragrances, JV played with masculine aromas like leather and tobacco and reintroduced them into very unexpected, fresh and appealing fragrances. With Artisan, the new theme is a classic citrus splash, but reinvented, this time using orange as the main note instead of lemon or lime. It’s absolutely wonderful — fresh and orangey with some masculine florals and a smooth base. A very original take on a citrus theme. The fragrance has a bit of a surprise opening with lots of orange notes — Sicilian clementines, tangelos and Mexican winter mandarin oranges — all mellowed out with accents of thyme and marjoram. At it’s heart are notes of orange tree blossoms, orange jasmine, Indian murraya and ginger extracts. The basenotes or dry down, in my opinion, is where all the magic happens. All of the citrus notes are balanced out and blended with an ultramodern abstract woody base that is so smooth and unlike many of the colognes that are on the market today.

I started wearing this fragrance about a week ago and already know
it will be in heavy rotation especially as the warmer months approach. Everything about his fragrance has a relaxed and casually elegant vibe including the bottle that holds it. The bottle looks like a hand-woven rattan flask, perhaps like a little treasure brought back from and exotic vacation — beautiful.

Eau de Toilette is available in 125ml bottle ($75) and a wider launch in April will offer an EDT 75ml ($55) and Deodorant stick ($22).
