I made a trip this week to Leffot (the very stylish and sort of new-ish shoe store on Christopher Street) and came home with a new pair of Alden Shell Cordovan lace-ups. Very classic in a school uniform kind of way. Steven, the knowledgeable and very witty owner, explained to me that cordovan has a waxy finish and ages nicely ... and unlike most shoe leather, cordovan comes from a horse’s hide rather than from a cow. To be more specific, a horses rump. He then told me that in every horses ass there are two pairs of shoes. Hilarious!
Steven has hand-picked some of the worlds best shoes from makers like Edward Green, Church’s English, Pierre Corthay, J.M. Weston and Artioli. Leffot also specializes in MTO shoes for the more daring.
While I was there, a pair of Graftons by Church’s English Shoes were calling my name…loudly. I think I should get them. I’ll be rocking the Graftons with a pair of dark inky-blue Diesel’s.
