Things I've Learned Over a Pair of Shoes

I made a trip this week to Leffot (the very stylish and sort of new-ish shoe store on Christopher Street) and came home with a new pair of Alden Shell Cordovan lace-ups. Very classic in a school uniform kind of way. Steven, the knowledgeable and very witty owner, explained to me that cordovan has a waxy finish and ages nicely ... and unlike most shoe leather, cordovan comes from a horse’s hide rather than from a cow. To be more specific, a horses rump. He then told me that in every horses ass there are two pairs of shoes. Hilarious!

Steven has hand-picked some of the worlds best shoes from makers like Edward Green, Church’s English, Pierre Corthay, J.M. Weston and Artioli. Leffot also specializes in MTO shoes for the more daring.

While I was there, a pair of Graftons by Church’s English Shoes were calling my name…loudly. I think I should get them. I’ll be rocking the Graftons with a pair of dark inky-blue Diesel’s.

Feast your eyes and check out Leffots blog here.

Love, love, love Alden shoes. Church's and Aldens are neck in neck, so you can't go wrong with either.

(Just in case you think I'm kidding, I'm being very serious--my dad has worn them for years.)

Hi James, we love shoes. These are so beautifully made. I just have to tell you I was in Frederic Malle yesterday bathing myself in different scents. They have a heavenly one for men called French Lover. Divine. Carla

Bradley, Hills and Carla--thanks for your comments!!!

The fit is amazing and I can tell the leather will just get better with age.

Bradley: They are impressive :))) and I like your blog too!

Hills: You're dad has good taste! but I already knew that :) Church's makes women's versions of the men's shoes. I saw them at Leffot and they're pretty cool.

Carla: I love shoes too :)) can you tell? Your day, yesterday, sounds wonderful!! French Lover (they renamed it Bois d'Orage in the U.S.) is on the TOP of my hot list for colognes. I need to try this one. Soon!

I have 40 pair of shoes. I just found 41 and 42. I am gonna pair the wing tips with khaki shorts and a starcehd white shirt, D@G shades,Louis V bag and head for Cherry Grove in style.
