Bond no.9 Significant Mother's Day Raffle

I'm going to be all over this one.

During the week preceding Mother’s Day (May 10th), Bond No. 9 aficionados are invited to sign up their favorite mother for a unique Mother’s Day raffle gift: a year’s supply of Bond No. 9. This means one bottle per month of the eau de parfum of her choice.

All you need to do is stop at any of the Bond no. 9 stores or at the Bond no. 9 counter at Saks Fifth Avenue, Sunday, May 3rd - Saturday, May 9th. There you can supply their name and contact information on a raffle to be left in a hatbox. At the close of business on the 9th, the winning raffle at each store will be drawn at random and the winner informed that evening—just in time for Mother’s Day.
Who qualifies as an eligible mother? The regular, old-fashioned, all-forgiving, chicken-soup mother, to be sure. But also the career mother, the vamp mother, the shopaholic mother … any female on whom we’d ordinarily bestow a Mother’s Day gift. And hey, self-satisfying types are welcome to enter their own name.

Enter to win at any of the four Bond No. 9 boutiques in New York City:
9 Bond Street · 680 Madison Avenue · 897 Madison Avenue · 399 Bleecker Street
and nationwide at Saks Fifth Avenue

Naturally Clean Hands

I can’t keep my hands clean enough these days and sometimes I find it hard to deal with the smell of Purell. Here's a nice alternative — Naturally Clean by Essie Purifying Hand Treatment. Essie is a brand that has been around for a while and most of your girl friends will know Essie for their huge nail polish collection.

This 100% natural formula uses eucalyptus oil for it’s antiseptic benefits and rice bran for some powerful antioxidant protection. It’s convenient, it smells good and a bottle of it sits on my desk. You can find Essie products at Ricky’s NYC.

Niacin-Powered Skin Therapy

As I mentioned in an earlier post, I’ve become a huge fan of a certain eye cream and I promised to tell you more about it. The object of my obsession is the new NIA 24 Eye Repair Complex. I’ve been using this eye cream morning and night for the past few weeks and I noticeably smoother and firmer under-eye skin. NIA 24 is working. The key ingredient in this skincare line is a cutting-edge, patented Niacin molecule called Pro-Niacin. Here’s how I understand it; when the skin’s Niacin content is increased, the skin barrier is strengthened, moisture retention is improved and cell turnover is increased. The result: fresher looking skin.

NIA 24 products can be purchased at Space NK stores as well as leading dermatologists’ and plastic surgeons’ offices nationwide. I was in Bloomingdales in Soho over the weekend and saw it in the Space NK shop inside the store. Check out the NIA 24 website.

The Swerve

How many times has this happened to you? You get a rocking haircut — looking sharp — only to find that a couple of weeks later your haircut is in tact but the back of your neck has developed some “in-between haircut” stubble. Hello The Swerve™ — a very cool grooming tool designed to keep your neck smooth and stubble-free. It's ergonomic plastic contoured design gives you the control and comfort you need to extend your shave to hard to reach areas including the back of your neck and upper body. Check it at www.theswerve.com.

Try to get past the caveman back and odd shaped hands that are featured in this video and see how The Swerve works.

Nice Touch!

I recently bought a pair of shoes at Leffot on Christopher Street. Not long after the purchase, I received something rather nice — a hand written thank you card from the owner!

popchips

I love potato chips and I have to share my latest guilt-free snack discovery with you — popchips! These chips are so good I’ve been dreaming about them. Popchips are potato chips that are neither fried nor baked; they're actually popped under heat and pressure. Using this method, the chips have all the flavor and half the fat of a typical potato chip with no trans fat, no saturated fats, no cholesterol and no preservatives. Popchips are on my hot list and the five flavors range from good to amazingly good — better than baked chips. Love them.

What does this have to do with grooming you might ask? Well bathing suit season is just around the corner and the good news is that a satisfying one-ounce portion, 20 to 22 chips, has only 120 calories—and since they’re popped, they leave no greasy fingers. Winner!

What I Used This Morning

Photobucket

My slightly high-maintenance morning included:

Neutrogena T/Gel Shampoo
Recommended for those with buzzed or little hair – it’s very good for the scalp.

Sharps Daily Prep Foaming Facial Scrub
Like a double shot at Starbucks. Woke it up and made it glow.

Origins Blade Runner Energizing Shave Cream
Brushless. I used it with my Merkur DE razor

Liz Earle Naturally Active After Shave Moisturizer
Applied to beard area. Ultra soothing.

Matte For Men Complete Head Care Lotion
Top of my head and every place I didn’t get with Liz Earle.

NIA 24 Eye Repair Complex
Love this stuff and will write more about it soon. Big fan of this one.

Dry Idea Clinical Complete Antiperspirant
It works.

Hermes - Hermessence Vetiver Tonka
2 sprays on my chest.

Dressed and out the door!

Nautica Oceans—Eco-Friendly Fragrance

Nautica has launched it’s first eco-friendly fragrance — Nautica Oceans. A perfect scent for Earth Day (April 22). Nautica goes green this time and uses new exclusive breakthrough technology to create a biodegradable water-based cologne — it's longer lasting and gentler on the skin than most traditional alcohol-based colognes. Love it.

Nautica Oceans is a nicely balanced warm weather scent that stays close to the skin — definitely not over powering. Perfect for spring and summer. The opening is pleasant, fresh, crisp and clean with hints of Ocean Air and Lemon Tonic. The middle contains Sea Salt Rose, Lavender Reef and Geranium. The dry down, which is my favorite, has notes of Amber Crystals and Regatta Accord. Then the whole scent warms up a few degrees with a cedar-like aroma that is most likely the Teak Wood note. Very nice.

And this is just wild… Nautica has distilled an actual piece of a sail from the world’s #1 racing yacht to create it’s Regatta Accord which is prominent in it's dry down. Umm...could be, kinda, sorta, maybe a marketing gimmick, but WHATEV I like the concept. Pretty amazing. Dive into it here.

Peasants & Travelers Bags

I got to test-drive a couple of new bags over the weekend and have to tell you about them. They’re from a new company called Peasants & Travelers and I like ‘em a lot. The bags are fun, hip, classic, nicely designed and priced right! I’d describe them as “urban-rugged” with some very cool details. The inside of the bags are lined with the type of fabric used in a men’s dress shirt. Nice surprise! They’re perfect for running around town, heading off to work, going to the gym or even for a weekend getaway.

All of the Peasants & Travelers bags look phenom, but the one that had me was the navy/orange backpack. See my pic. This bag is super-roomy (but not bulky) with just the right amount of compartments including a padded laptop sleeve. The contoured shoulder straps fit like a glove, making this a very comfortable backpack. Super stylish and functional.

There are LOTS of other Peasants & Travelers bags too. Check them out here.

Get the Sweat Out

High-tech, high-performance, micro-fiber fabrics like Nikes’ Dri-Fit, Under Armour, CoolMax and Adidias’s ClimaCool are the bomb when it comes to wicking away sweat, but at the end of a tough workout they can hold on to body odor and get pretty stinky. Even after washing, the odor may return with just a little bit of body heat. You know what I mean, right? I have to tell you about my new discovery — WIN High Performance Sport Detergent. This is a high-tech detergent that takes care of high-performance gear by eliminating embedded sweat and odors without degrading the sweat-wicking properties. I love this stuff! I could tell the difference between WIN and my regular detergent after the first wash. I’m not one to go ga-ga over laundry detergent but WIN is really amazing stuff! I even use it on my regular clothes — I love its fresh scent.

WIN is also the official detergent of the U.S. Olympic Team, and used in Olympic training centers across the country. WIN is available at www.sweatlifter.com, Dick’s Sporting Goods and Sports Authority. Check it out here.

Britain’s Best Kept Grooming Secret…

Meet Liz Earle Naturally Active Skincare For Men. Liz Earle’s philosophy for men’s skincare is simple… wash, shave and moisturize. You can’t beat this classic grooming combo to keep your skin in shape. Liz takes men's grooming to a whole new level with her Naturally Active Skincare For Men line. These are no-nonsense skincare products that are easy to use, perform phenomenally and smell great —clean, luxurious and masculine. The woman knows her stuff. She’s taken her botanical skincare expertise and applied it to her men’s line to tackle our skin situations. The result? Two thumbs up.

I’m a huge fan of Liz Earle Face Scrub and more recently I started using some of her other products; Cleanse & Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser, Sensitive Shave Cream, After-Shaving Moisturizer and the Body Wash. They all hit my hot list.

Give Cleanse & Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser a shot. It’s a fresh way to wash your face. How to do it: Pump a small amount of the cleanser (about the size of a nickel) on to your finger tips, then smooth the cream all over your face and neck. Massage it in to your skin, then rub it off using a hot damp muslin cloth (2 cloths comes with the cleanser). The cloth acts like a buffer and really gets the oil and dirt out of the pores. The result is amazingly soft glowing skin. Sweet!

Liz Earle is now available in the U.S. — check it here.

L'Eau d'Issey Pour Homme 2009 Summer Edition

The weather is getting warmer here in NYC which means the Summer Edition of one of my favorite colognes has hit the shelves. Each summer, since 1995, Issey Miyake has released a summer edition of his classic L’Eau d’Issey Pour Homme. The summer editions, which are limited and only available through September, give a nod to the original by adding a new twist to the mix. The 2009 L’Eau d’Issey Pour Homme Summer Edition is my fav of the summer editions. And check out the icy-urban-cool bottle.

I was into with the original L’Eau d’Issey when it came out in 1994. L’Eau d’Issey was groundbreaking at the time — an unusual blend of aromas that redefined what a masculine scent would be. Subtle, smooth, sensual, and fresh with a hint of Japanese citrus. It became my signature scent and I’ve gone through several bottles of the original — it’s a great versatile scent. Subtle enough to wear daytime and warm enough to wear in the evening.

L’Eau d’Issey 2009 Summer Edition uses a different type of alcohol which helps the cologne to be more in sync with the warmer weather. It opens with icy yuzu and mandarin orange and finishes with a blend of cardamom and sage. The edge is balanced with vetiver and ambergris.

Summer edition is $57 and is available now at Bloomingdale’s, Nordstrom, Macy’s, Dillard’s and Sephora.

Crank it. Surf it. Ride it… with Tom Brady

Tom Brady's All American Stetson Challenge is up and running. I just played the game and it's A LOT of fun! (it's also a little addicting) You can challenge Tom in motocross, snowboarding and kayaking and try to beat him at his own video game! While you're there, you can get more info on the fragrance (the scent is rugged and sexy) and request a sample — they'll send it to you. All American Stetson features notes of black suede (Tom Brady’s self-professed favorite), cedar leaf, ginger, musk, and fresh water ferns.

Last month I went to the All American Stetson launch party (yes, I'm the guy with the shiny head on the left) where a few of us beauty and grooming bloggers spoke to Tom in a video conference and asked him some very intimate questions. Now you can see a couple of clips of Tom answering those questions on YouTube. The guy is good looking AND charming and the perfect spokesman for this cologne.

Made To Measure

Check out Made To Measure for some super affordable fashion tips and a guide to looking sharp. Dennis, the editor, is into finding clothes at a good price and making the most of them. Like a $40 Burberry trench  paired with some J. Crew. Or my favorite, a khaki suit from Overstock.com that was tailored by Beyond Bespoke tailoring to look like it was, well…a bespoke suit. Check it.
