File this one under “Take care of the inside and the inside will take care of the outside.”

I do lots of things to stay healthly. I exercise regularly, eat plenty of vegetables, drink lots of water and try to get enough rest… I try. Recently, I added a raw food to my daily regimen, it’s called Kombucha (pronounced kom-BOO-cha).

Kombucha is a Chinese tea brewed from mushrooms and loaded with beneficial microorganisms. The tea is delicately fermented for 30 days — during this period, essential nutrients begin to form like active enzymes, viable probiotics, amino acids, antioxidants and polyphenols. All of these combine to create an elixir that immediately works with the body to restore balance and vitality. Kombucha has been used for hundreds of years throughout the world as a daily health tonic. I’m a little late to this party, but better late than never.

Kombucha is not a supplement, drug, or medicine... it is simply a super healthy food that helps the body to regain its natural balance, which promotes overall well being. Just like regular exercise, Kombucha is something that supports a healthy lifestyle. When the body is healthier, its natural defenses are stronger.

Organic, raw Kombucha has a kind of vinegar taste. I prefer the Synergy brand — it has all the benefits of organic Kombucha and is mixed with 5% real fruit juice. I buy enough to last a week at Whole Foods.

Benefits: Increased energy level, decreased appetite, improved digestion, healthier skin and hair.

How much: $3.39 for 16 oz bottle at Whole Foods.

Chanel Allure Homme Hair and Body Wash

One way to get through the bleak months of January and February is to book a vacation at a five-star hotel at some tropical, sunny and chic destination. While you’re there, soak up the sun (with sunscreen), take naps and enjoy those wonderfully indulgent toiletries and bath products on display in the bathroom. Sounds good? Another option would be to stay home, dress warm, take naps and treat yourself to a bottle of Chanel Allure Homme Hair and Body Wash. Starting Over from Origins

January 2010—Ask Kate Gosselin and Elin aka Mrs. Tiger Woods. There isn’t a better time to take stock of what’s around you and make a brave move to start over. It’s a time to look at what’s working and what’s not. That goes for the worn out shoes, stinky sneakers, frumpy coats and every little bad habit in between, and yes, it also goes for skin care — shave creams, after shaves, deodorants, moisturizers, lip balms and hair care products.

Origins just released a new age-erasing moisturizer called, and I couldn’t think of a better name myself, Starting Over.

For guys, there are not a lot of choices in the color department, and by that I mean makeup, but what we do have are some excellent new choices in the skin care treatment arena.

As skin ages, its structure deteriorates and collagen and elastin decrease. These structural changes are responsible for skin that looks older than it should. Excess sugar in skin and environmental concerns fuel the destructive process of Glycation which causes strong collagen to “ball up” and collapse resulting in lines, wrinkles and tone and texture damage.

Starting Over is perfect for any guy looking to give a fresh start to his skincare routine with the New Year. Ingredients found within Starting Over are clinically proven to help rebuild natural collagen, even-out skin tone and help reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Origins Starting Over comes in two formulations; regular and oil-free. Starting Over’s unique line-leveling formula begins to amplify the natural production of collagen and plumps up those lines.

The impressive stats: During clinical testing, 100% of panelists saw a significant improvement in skin tone while 94% saw a significant improvement in the appearance of lines and wrinkles.

Origins Starting Over Age-erasing moisturizer with Mimosa and Starting Over Age-erasing oil-free moisturizer with Mimosa is available now at Origins Retail Stores, select Department Stores and The price is $45.00.

Jersey Shore... Get the Look.

Nothing has kept me glued to my TV like MTV’s Jersey Shore. The tans, the clubbing, the accent, the muscles, the pickle cravings, the black eyes, the rhinestone-studded t shirts, the GTL lifestyle (gym, tan and laundry), the Situation… the hair, the HAIR! From Snooki’s Cutie Puff do to DJ Pauly D’s “Growing Up Gotti” inspired HAIR ART — I love it. And, um, btw... I think I'm having a little guy crush on DJ Pauly D. There, I said it.

Whether they’re bar hopping, hitting the gym or busting some moves at Club Karma in Seaside Heights, one thing is for sure, you’ll never see the male cast members of MTV’s Jersey Shore un-gelled. And what do they use to sculpt their insanely perfect locks? Clubman Super Hold Styling Gel by Clubman-Pinaud, a line of fine men’s toiletries, established in 1810.

A large jar of Clubman-Pinaud is seen in the first episode of Jersey Shore, the men of this MTV hit reality show proudly admit to the fact that it takes up to half an hour to sculpt their hair to the acceptable degree.

Boasting a mega hold and used by men both young and old, Clubman Super Hold Styling Gel is a mixture of conditioning and strengthening ingredients that conditions as it grooms and leaves hair looking natural, never greasy. Just the way The Situation and DJ Pauly D like it.

To use Clubman Super Hold Styling Gel: Simply add gel to hair and comb into place, allowing it to dry completely. Clubman Styling Gel will keep hair looking well-groomed all day and keeps hair in place, even for the most active men.

Clubman Super Hold Styling Gel will set you back a mere $4.29.

Norway Meets New York...

I’m a little embarrassed to say, but up until now, my exposure to Scandinavian culture had been acquired by watching hours of Rose Nyland on The Golden Girls. And even that experience was limited to Rose's tales of life in St. Olaf, the Norwegian farming settlement in northern Minnesota, known on local license plates as "Big Statue Country.”

Rose was born out of wedlock to a monk and his lover. Her biological mother died during childbirth, and her father returned to the monastery. Her first eight years of life were spent in an orphanage; during this time she developed a conviction that her biological father was Bob Hope, a belief she would retain until she met her real father toward the end of the series. Ah, but I digress.

Anyhoodle, you can imagine how excited I was when I received this cologne and press kit for the new Norway-NYC inspired fragrance called Kristiansand New York — created by Norwegians, Britt Hovde Ross and actress Elisabeth Steen. These modern golden girls set out to create a men’s fragrance inspired by the two places Britt and Elisabeth love most…New York and Kristiansand! New Yorkers long for the peace of the ocean and countryside while Norwegians long for the excitement of the city. Kristiansand New York aims to capture both longings.

I can best describe KNY as a sexy, clean, slightly powdery masculine scent with nice, not-too-strong sillage (that's the wake of scent you leave trailing behind.) The top notes are pleasant and somewhat familiar, but patience is required for this one, because the dry down is definitely worth waiting for. I got a nice surprise after sniffing the scent on my skin the next day — Kristiansand NY kept all the warmth of the initial spray but then transformed, very elegantly, into a clean, crisp-creamy-smooth, and sexy aroma. Very nice. The strength of Kristiansand New York is in the dry down.

And btw, the image below was included in the press kit and I'd imagine that Rose Nyland would have some kind of heartwarming story involving this strapping dude.
