Movember Is Coming to a Close—Turo Skin to the Rescue

My good men, as Turkey Day is just around the corner and Movember is quickly coming to to an end, I'd like to tip my hat and say thanks to the guys who grew their facial fuzz to show support and raise awareness of some serious men's health issues. Bravo! This movement is so cool. But now it's time to break out the shaving gear and start removing the fuzz with the Turo Skin Multi-Active Shave. Better than having your own personal barber manicure those mustaches, this shave gel transforms from a gel to foam that gently exfoliates for the closest shave possible. Turo also has lots of other stuff to help moisturize your skin and keep the wrinkles away. Pick it up for $30 at TuroSkin.com

Brotox... ReVive Moisturizing Renewal Cream

So many guys with "mature" skin are getting poked by needles and going under the knife, turning to cosmetic procedures—mostly Botox—to knock a few years off your appearance and achieve that youthful, smooth, fresh look. Ouch! I've had my share of "Brotox" too, but Botox is expensive, it doesn't last very long and if it is injected in the wrong spot you can get a droopy, wonky eye look that can take weeks to bounce back. Been there, done that, got the t-shirt and don't want to do it again. Nope. I found a cream that is giving me the "smooth around the eyes" look I was getting with the needle pokes, but minus the sagging. It's also doing a nice job on retexturing my skin.

As my medicine cabinet will prove, I've tried so many creams, serums and gels that claim to be a substitute for Botox or even better than Botox but the one that is doing the trick for me is ReVive Moisturizing Renewal Cream. For the past few weeks I've been putting it on before bed as a night cream, along with ReVive Defensif Renewal Serum. I catch a few winks and wake up with seriously smoother skin. I also put a little around the crows feet part of my eyes every other day for a little boost. The cream incorporates Glycolic Acid— it gently exfoliates dead skin cells and refines texture. The 1.7 oz jar is $195 and yes it's an investment but I heard this cream referred to as the "if you can invest in only one good cream, this is it" cream, and I agree.

Organic Male Desert Springs pH Balancer

This is the time of year when my skin gets kind of dry and a little itchy...ugh... so extra special care is needed for the skin. Yup, Halloween is just around the corner and as the temperature gets colder and the air get dryer, I forget about the goblins and witches and make a beeline for the Witch Hazel. Now, and during the winter, is when I recharge my face, neck and scalp with a good pH skin balancer. A new discovery and an instant favorite of mine is Organic Male Desert Springs pH balancer. This is an excellent hydrating and soothing skin balancer that eliminates dryness and give my mug the TLC it needs. Infused with lots of organic goodies, including witch hazel to reduce inflammation and redness, while calming chapped and irritated skin. It has a nice smoothing effect and it also smells pretty awesome too. Nice, clean and natural.

Available for $35 at Organic Male

MicroTouch Switchblade for your Movember moustache... and everything else

My good men, Movember is almost here — the month-long event where men grow moustaches during the month of November to raise awareness and funds to find a cure for prostate cancer and testicular cancer. Keeping the stache trimmed for a month could be a full time job, unless of course you're a 70's porn star or a Williamsburg hipster. Whether you're stash style is gringo, box car, abra kadabra, trucker, major or undercover brother,  I found a very cool must-have trimmer called Microtouch Switchblade — it will get you through the month as well as the rest of the year and will stylishly trim those areas above the waist and delicately trim the boxwood hedges below the waist.

Microtouch Switchblade is a 2-in-1 trimmer that goes from micro to a full size groomer with a sleek compact design. Switchblade has the power to get the job done— and for about $20 bucks.

11 Semma — The addition of Tobacco to the Odin Fragrance Line

Odin, the store that just evokes New York cool, has launched it's first tobacco fragrance called 11 Semma. The unisex scent is so thoughtfully composed and richly layered with hints of fresh chili pepper and powdery tonka, notes of cinnamon bark, sweet tobacco, and warm myrrh with sandalwood and herbaceous clove. The scent balances sweet and warm, masculine and feminine — the result is so sophisticated and smooth. 11 Semma opens with a sultry touch of Myrrh and a hint of chili pepper. As the scent maneuvers into the base notes of sandalwood, tonka bean and sweet tobacco, it makes me feel like I'm wrapped in a soft and warm, charcoal gray cashmere blanket. This scent is just so cozy and sexy. 11 Semma is a perfect fragrance for Fall and Winter.

Available at Odin New York, Aedes de Venustas in New York, Barneys New York nationwide, Colette in Paris, Liberty in London and Quartier 206 in Berlin.

New Scent from 007 — Ocean Royale

A surprising and amazing new fragrance has launched from the James Bond 007 line — Ocean Royale. I wasn't sure what to make of this at first, but I started to conjure up of images of James Bond and Daniel Craig and thought, hmmm, this could be interesting. Well, it is. I was really surprised at what a good solid, well-constructed and SEXY fragrance this is. The top, middle and base notes are harmonious, subtle and quite pleasant yet mysterious. The scent opens with an aquatic whiff of aniseed, bergamot and notes of lime. Then it moves into a creamy interpretation of teak wood, guaiac and cedar woods. Finishing off with just the slightest hint of coffee bean and the luxurious (and one of my favorites) base note of tonka bean. This is a sophisticated blend that works well on many levels but the thing that surprised me the most is the price. This sophisticated elixir retails at Kohl's for $30 for 30ml. I would expect to pay 2 or 3 times that price for this quality scent. Definitely recommended.

Dr. Brandt Time Arrest V-zone Neck Cream— because your face starts here (he points to his neck)

We all know it’s a good idea to moisturize and use a sunscreen on your mug, but unfortunately the neck gets ignored, overlooked, abandoned and declined. Well guys, sooner or later it’s going to happen. Your neglected neck will show the signs of aging with the sad look of elasticity loss, surface dryness & sagging skin. I’m a big proponent of the saying “Your face starts here.” *points to his adam’s apple.
I found an excellent choice for neck care that I’ve incorporated into my daily skin care regimein — Dr. Brandt Time Arrest V-zone Neck Cream. (And I’m not just saying that because he’s Madonna’s dermatologist.)
Re-formulated to include Dr. Brandts Age Reversing Platinum Technology this cream helps firm and tighten the neck area. Time arrest v-zone neck cream improves skins elasticity and moisture levels while restoring this delicate skins appearance and texture providing a smoother silkier look and feel.
helps lift firm and tighten neck
   improves & sustains moisture
stimulates cell turnover, improving skins texture to a smoother appearance
formulated with Glycolic Acid Shea Butter and Vitamin C

Active Ingredients:
   Glycolic Acid: Exfoliates.
   Shea Butter: Retains moisture.
Essenskin: Fortifies and restructures the thin and fragile maturing skin.
Dynalift: Tightens and smoothes the skin.

Dr.Brandt skincare is more than just a doctor brand. As a practicing celebrity dermatologist (yes, Madonna — had to say it again!) Dr. Fredric Brandt searches for state of the art ingredients and technologically advanced delivery systems that mimic his in-office procedures. Good skin care — just what the doctor ordered.

Dr. Brandt Time Arrest V-zone Neck Cream: Highly recommended

Creed Aventus Smells Like Money

I had dinner the other night at Almond, the restaurant on East 22nd Street in NYC, possibly owned by the brother of Anthony Wiener. And no, I didn't order the sausage, bratwurst or anything that would resemble an appendage the candidate tweeted pics of. I got there a bit early and waited at the bar for my friend to arrive. As he walked in, I noticed how good he looked — sharp, tailored and rested. He came over and as we said hello with a hug, I became mesmerized by his fragrance. Bypassing the "You look great." and "How've you been?", I went straight for the jugular — "What are you wearing? You smell amazing."

Turns out he was wearing Aventus by Creed. Here is my initial impression. Aventus smells like a fresh crisp Benjamin covered with a sophisticated creamy layer of citrus mist. Yes, this smells like fresh money. I loved it. All Creed fragrances are so well executed and Aventus is light enough to wear comfortably and yet make a statement. I'll be adding this one to my collection.

My La Mer Lip Balm

Almost time get a new one because I don't leave home without it. This baby has been around the world as well as knocked around in shorts, jeans, suits, backpacks and brief cases. And in case anyone is wondering, the square outline in my left pocket is my iPhone and the round outline in my right pocket is my La Mer lip balm. It's a look.

If it's good for Marc, it's good for me

Can't say I'm a big fan of the kilt but I do love me some clean skin. It seems Marc Jacobs is a fan of clean, fresh, moisturized skin as well. And he makes an excellent soap choice — Whole Foods Triple Milled Shea Butter Soap — which is my soap of choice. This bar produces lots of thick, creamy lather that whisks away oils and dirt without leaving the skin dry — very moisturizing. It rinses off easily and leaves a "barely there" fresh clean "way above average" scent. Definitely a must on your next trip to Whole Foods.
